Topic:
Using the Resources of the NJIT Library to Find Information in Chemistry and Environmental Science
Abstract:
The aim of this seminar is to show chemistry graduate students how to use electronic and print resources to find published information needed for their courses and research at NJIT. I will show how the scientific method can be used to develop a strategy to efficiently find information. Scientific and technical information is communicated from an investigator working in a laboratory to another person who needs that information at some point in the future. I will explain how this information flows through the various formats of the literature such as journals, conference proceedings, monographs, data compilations and encyclopedias. To retrieve the most recent information, chemistry students must be aware of databases such as Scifinder Scholar, Scopus, the Applied Science Abstracts, and Science Direct. I will demonstrate how a search is done in these databases and how to retrieve desired documents.
