Chemistry Olympics 2012
Almost three hundred high school science students will be visiting the NJIT campus on May 17th to participate in the 27th annual New Jersey Chemistry Olympics competition. This event, sponsored by The Department of Chemistry & Environmental Science, gives top science students from the New Jersey area the opportunity to compete head to head in chemical research, general and laboratory events.

NJIT faculty worked with selected high school teachers to prepare the ten events for this year’s competition and announced them in January. Example topics selected by the group include investigations into Ocean Acidification; Enzyme Catalyzed Reactions; Gastronomy and Reaction Kinetics. Now, four months later, students have submitted their research papers, proposals and laboratory procedures and are now preparing for the live competition event. Soon, Tiernan Hall will be immersed in the enthusiasm of young scientists, their mentors and volunteer judges all in the spirit of engaging a community in the camaraderie of scientific endeavors.
